A story by Paulo Coelho posted on Monday, July 25, 2005

An old man who is about to die calls a young man to his side and tells him a story of heroism: in wartime, he had helped a man to survive. He provided the man with shelter, food and protection. When the man who had been saved was once in a safe place, he decided to betray his savior and turn him over to the enemy. "How did you escape?" the young man asked him. "I didnt escape. I was the betrayer," said the old ma. "But in telling the story as if I were the hero, I can understand everything he did for me."
